International Conference THE FRAGMENT IN THE DIGITAL AGE. Opportunities and limitations of new conservation-restoration techniques. 7th - 8th May 2021. Online

Pubblicato: Martedì 2 febbraio 2021

Organized by Hornemann Institute, in cooperation with
- ICOMOS AG Konservierung-Restaurierung (German National Scientific Committee for Conservation-Restoration of ICOMOS)
- Verband der Restauratoren e. V. (Association of Restorers e.V.)

Works of art are mostly handed down in fragments. The handling of the fragment is therefore one of the central tasks of conservator-restorers. This interdisciplinary conference will focus on what the new digital possibilities mean for the preservation and mediation of the historical fragment, since experts from various disciplines currently perceive a gap between the increasing importance and professionalization of the visual reconstruction of the historical on the one hand and the theoretical foundation of such activities on the other.
Registration for online-participation is free of charge.

The conference will have three main foci:
1) the foundation of the monastery and the building of the church in the 12th century,
2) the remodelling of the church and monastery in the course of the reforms in the 15th century, and
3) its historicist redesign in the 19th century.

Around 25 experts from various disciplines will be involved, especially from art history, history, restoration, monument conservation and architecture.

Registration form, the agenda, the abstracts of the papers, the posters and a video with a short introduction of the topic of the conference and the poster section by Prof. Dr. Ursula Schädler-Saub: https://www.hornemann-institut.de/english/conference_fragment_digital_age.php

The conference languages are German and English. Simultaneous translation is not possible.
